Work and Travel USA Program Cool Idea Awards 2008

The Cool Idea Awards (CIA) is a competition to determine local university students’ abilities to strategize and conduct planning. Those contestants who excel will be sponsored to join the Work and Travel USA program (WATUSA).

Why Should I Join the CIA?
When you apply for the Work and Travel USA program (WATUSA) and join the CIA by 11 October 2008, you will have a chance to win a FULL sponsorship to join the WATUSA 2009 program. More importantly, regardless of the outcome of the competition, you are entitled to have your HKD100-Administration fee waived, and enjoy the HKD2000-Early Bird discount, meaning your program fee would be HKD20,000 instead of HKD22,000!!

 


Competition Entry Requirement

  • You must be between 18 and 30 years old;
  • You must be registered as a full-time student at a local post-secondary institution, enrolled in a program with minimum length of 2 years.
  • You must be able to function in an English-speaking work environment;
  • You must not have participated in Work and Travel USA Program previously; and
  • You must submit a full application to Work and Travel USA Program 2009 on or before 11 October 2008.

Competition Details

The competition will be divided into three rounds and will run from September to November 2008.

ROUND 1

How to enter Just 3 steps and you can enter the competition:
  1. Go to intrinsic.com.hk and enter the CIA section
  2. Answer a simple question about the WATUSA Program
  3. Complete the Application Form online and wait for Round 2 announcement

Deadline 11 October 2008 (Saturday)
Result Result will be announced by 14 October. Successful contestants will receive an invitation to Round 2 by email.

ROUND 2

The Idea To ensure contestants’ basic understanding, suitability of the overseas experience and their proper motivation, contestants will be invited to an INTERVIEW.
Assessment Contestants are assessed on their abilities to demonstrate the below essential elements.
  1. Interpersonal Skills
  2. Communication Skills
  3. Understanding of the Work and Travel USA Program
  4. Personal characteristics regarding responsibility, maturity, flexibility, independence, adaptability, confidence, etc.

Date 18 October 2008 (Saturday)contestants will be notified of venue & time by email
Result Result will be announced by 29 October. Top 30 contestants will receive an invitation to Round 3 by email.

ROUND 3

The Idea In the form of Orienteering, this is to determine contestants’ abilities to strategize and conduct contingency planning, as well as to test their physical fitness since they might have the chance to face the challenging working environment in the US.
Assessment Contestants who complete the highest number of checkpoints in the shortest period of time will be the winners.
Date 1 November 2008 (Saturday)contestants will be notified of venue & time by email Result Result will be announced on the same day.

Awards

Prizes worth of HKD83,000 in total will be awarded to winners. One Platinum Award winner will receive a full sponsorship worth of HKD20,000 to participate Work and Travel USA Program 2009.


Two Gold Award winners will each receive sponsorship of HKD10,000 to join the Program and each of the four Silver Award winners will receive HKD5,000 worth of sponsorship. The rest of the contestants qualified into the final round will each receive HKD1,000 worth of sponsorship as the Bronze Award.

Remarks
1. All participants in the competition are entitled to have their HKD100-Administration Fee waived, and enjoy the Early Bird discount, meaning their Program Fee would be HKD20,000 instead of HKD22,000.
2. All sponsorships will be given upon participant’s completion of the Work and Travel USA Program 2009, and submission of a monthly journal while on the Program.
3. The winners are responsible for their passports, visa application expenses and other personal expenditure while they are in the US.
4. In the event that the winner(s) cannot participate in the Work and Travel USA Program due to any reason(s) (including travel documents problems); or the program is cancelled or delayed due to any unpredictable reason(s), the sponsorship of the program is non-transferable and cannot be converted or exchanged into cash.

Certificates

1. Certificate of Excellence
Winners of the Platinum, Gold and Silver Awards will be presented with a Certificate of Excellence as an acknowledgement of their outstanding performance.

2. Certificate of Merit
Each Bronze Award winner will a Certificate of Merit for their participation in the competition.

Rules & Regulations

  • All entries for Round 1 competition must be submitted by 23:59, 11 October 2008 (Saturday). Late entries will not be accepted.
  • A refundable deposit is required for all prize winners. Platinum Award winner will have to pay HKD3000 deposit for the program; Gold Award winners, Silver Award winners and Bronze Award winners are required to pay HKD1000 deposit for the program. Deposit will be wholly refunded to winners after their completion of the Work and Travel USA Program 2009.
  • Platinum, Silver and Gold Award winners are obligated to submit a monthly journal while on the Program.
  • All information including personal data of the contestants will be used strictly for purposes relating to the competition.
  • The information may also be used for publishing the event.
  • Contestants must adhere to the rules and regulations set out for this competition. Contestants failing to abide by the rules and regulations will be subject to disqualification.
  • Any contestant who causes unnecessary disturbance in a competition venue, and ignores warning may be disqualified.
  • In any case of dispute, the decision of Intrinsic shall be final.
  • Intrinsic has the final rights in the interpretation and amendment of the rules and regulations.
  • Intrinsic reserves the right to alter or modify the rules or schedule of the event if necessary or expedient.
  • The decision of the judging panel on all results shall be final and conclusive. No appeals will be entertained.
  • Intrinsic will not be responsible for any accidents, injuries, damage or loss of personal property which might occur during participation in or attendance at this competition or any other related activities.
  • Sponsorship cannot be used in conjunction with other promotional offers, discount or coupon unless specified otherwise.
